Battle Field Environment

Last Updated Time:2007/02/09

The information and network technologies are applied for collecting the GIS spatial information, such as oceanographic environment. The oceanographic combat field missions are operated actively to effectively support various naval operations and emergent search rescue missions.

1.      Oceanographic observation

Those oceanographic environment data collected by the naval surveying vessel, Takuan , could support the various naval operations precisely and effectively.

Depending on the “Guide Outline of Application Strategy for Surveying Vessels”, Ta-Kuan collected the oceanic data in the area of Taiwan vicinity.  Until now, the total surveying area is about 117,000 square nautical miles and Ta-Kuan accomplished bathymetry within the radius of 60 nm of Taiwan vicinity. All the data are edited and produced as nautical charts to better help for the military and civilian shipping security and to promote the naval ASW performance.

2.      Supporting the fleet about battle field environment information

The METOC liaison officers are assigned to various local naval forces and aviation forces. In order to achieve the goal of intelligence and combat exchange they are responsible for the mission of construction, providing, requirement and consulting of the two-way linking channels, as well as the management of the weather observatories.

3. Precise bathymetry surveying

The multi-beam fathometer data processing system is applied .Those processed data are produced as precise bathymetric charts and bottom contour charts, which provide the submarine diving in the ocean to know the underwater position and to ensure the cruising security . In the ASWs, the submarines can also employ the charts to achieve the goal of hiding and cheating enemies, and promote the submarines combat strength as well.

By 2003, a bunch of points was fount in the bathymetric data. After researching and re-processing the multi-beam oceanic data again, all the data were processed thoroughly by July, 2006.
